Mental Health First Aid Workshop with special guest Rohan Kallicharan – 10th October 2014
Celebrating World Mental Health Day
This workshop will provide an overview of the signs and symptoms associated with common mental health conditions such as depression and the experiences of people with poor wellbeing and the effects of mental health. The workshop will also look at some of the common signs and symptoms associated with changes in mental health and someone entering into crisis.
The session will explore what Mental Health First Aid is, and application of its principles, encouraging individuals to seek both professional and self-help strategies all aimed at preventing wellbeing from deteriorating further or preventing individuals entering into a crisis.
We are delighted to have with us as our special guest speaker Rohan Kallicharan, ambassador from the mental health charity Mind. Rohan has been actively campaigning for Mind for numerous years after suffering Bipolar. Rohan now shares his personal experiences and struggles of life with Bipolar, and his ongoing mission to challenge stigma and perceptions around mental health.
As well as his guest speaking, Rohan actively raises money for Mind and has taken part in many marathons across the UK. Most recently Rohan took part in the national awareness campaign for the charity “We are Mind” www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPxHTZRwXX8
We are delighted Rohan will be joining us to share with us his personal experiences of mental health, looking at what worked and what didn’t and the importance of Mental Health First Aid. The workshop will close with a question and answer session led by Rohan.
What’s the workshop about? This workshop is for anyone working within the Health & Social Care sector and explores how to help people developing a mental illness or in a crisis.
