Fairway Homecare Judge World Skills UK 2013 Caring Competition
Gillian Simpson, Registered Manager of Fairway Homecare recently was on the judging panel of the West Midlands heat of The World Skills UK 2013 Caring Competition.
Held at South and City College on the 22nd May, the event was organised by the National Skills Academy for Social Care. The WorldSkills UK competitions are part of WorldSkills International, the world’s largest vocational skills competition.
During the day competitors demonstrated to the panel the delivery of excellent care, including live activities and written tests that were judged by an expert panel. The panel was made up of three local employers including ourselves, Sue Pearson from Robins Day Centre, Birmingham City Council and Annette Hutchinson from Weatheroak Centre. The activities devised by the Skills Academy included working with people with disabilities and the elderly to replicate everyday situations that will occur in their future roles.
Regional heats took place in May and are scheduled in July across the UK with the highest scorers going forward to the National finals at The Skills Show in November being held at the Birmingham NEC.
