Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2015
Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), also referred to in America as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer. Fairway supports local charity Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer.
Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer was established in 2000 by Veronica Kumeta and the late Sue Macmaster, after their friend Carol Knaggs was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Having raised money for Breast Cancer before the idea was to control where the money went, rather than giving it to national charities, so they contacted the Queen Elizabeth Birmingham and started working exclusively with them. Since 2000, Ladies Fight Breast Cancer has given over £1 million to the QE’s Cancer Unit, which has helped fund new medical equipment and create a ‘centre of excellence’.
Fairway recently supported and attended Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer’s Charity Sporting Lunch with Ex-Rugby Internationals Tim Stimpson, David Hilton and Kevin Maggs. We also put on a Cuppa & Cake day at our office which raised £42.27p for Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer!
